21.01.07 In General

The alcove below the air conditioning has been made. I have finished painting the bedroom walls again and have now started glossing all the woodwork. I've decided that I dislike glossing!

20.01.07 The Bathroom

Rob has made the cupboard doors for the bathroom. They need filling and then they can be painted.

19.01.07 In General

The settees that we ordered in November which was guaranteed to be delivered by Christmas are coming into the warehouse on the 23rd January! This means that we need a carpet. We have ordered the dark brown carpet for the living room. The stair carpet will also be dark brown but the bedroom's will be in the lighter brown colour.
Hopefully, Phil will fit the carpet on Monday. Once the carpet is laid and the settee is in it will be properly like home. We will wrap up the door once the settee is in so that the room doesnt get covered in dust. I just hope that the settee will fit through the door!

14.01.07 The Bathroom

Rob has fitted the lights in the bathroom today. If you look at the left hand side of the picture you will see a round white sensor. This is the PIR system which will automatically switch the lights on in the bathroom as soon as you walk in. It's quite magic! The bathroom is now ready for plastering and then I can start tiling.

14.01.07 The Living Room

After 8 1/2 months we have a room finished! It's a momentous day! I'm so pleased with it and it looks beautiful. I can't wait to get the carpet down, get our new settees in and live in it for real.

13.01.07 The Condensing Heater & Storage Tank

This is the beast that warms our house and heats the water. It's a condensing boiler than runs on mains pressure but without the need for header tanks. The storage tank is stainless steel with a baffle system inside. The advantage is that it gives instant hot water at mains pressure rather than having to wait for a combi boiler to heat the water which may take 2-3 minutes. So it's cost effective in the long run as they are both A rated appliances.
It's properly wired up and now we can use the system on a timer. Which is on the wall on the second hallway.

12.01.07 The Hallway

The hallway has been grouted and the front door painted.
I am so proud of my tiling and grouting especially as it's the first time I've ever done floor tiling.

11.01.07 Hallway Cabinet

Rob made the hallway cabinet last week. It needs a piece of wood on top and then to be painted to finish it.

I will grout the hallway tomorrow.

11.01.07 Deeds

Today we got the title deeds from the solicitor...8 months later! The dates start from 1916. The previous owners are as follows:

In 1916 George Youdan died and passed the property to James Thomas Everitt Baldwin and Edward Townsend Page who sold the property to Frederick Linley Womack for £1,900.

Frederick Linley Womack died in 1951 and then later his wife Rebecca died in 1954 and the house was passed to his daughter Freda Linley Womack.

Freda married in 1956 and sold the property for £1075 in 1961 to Alfred Edward Allenbone and Edith Elizabeth Allenbone.

Edith died in 1977 and Alfred died in 1981. The house was inherited by Joan Margaret White and Frank White.

They sold the house to Joan Briggs in 1981 for £19000.

Who then sold the house to us, for £159,950 because the house prices had risen! Which is quite amusing because it needed a huge amount of work doing to it! But that's the joy of living in Bawtry!

04.01.07. More Woodwork

Rob has added the other column in the hallway. We now have matching columns.

04.01.07 The Air Conditioning

The air conditioning/heating system is now installed! One of the pictures show part of the unit fixed within the internal valley on the roof. This was installed at the beginning of October.
The back of the unit is on another picture. When the out pipe was installed through the external brick, it split one of the mock wooden window frames on the side of the house. Hopefully, this can be fixed. The other pictures are of the unit itself.
Having the air conditioning installed now means that the en suite can be plastered, tiled and have all the ceramics fixed into it.

03.01.07 Woodwork

A few pictures of the woodwork downstairs.
If you look closely the top of the living room door frame is 1" shorter on the left side than on the right. I guess that they didnt have spirit levels in 1809..ha ha ha
Even with tape measures that's still bad!

30.12.06 The Fireplace

The fireplace has been varnished, the metal work leaded and the chimney breast painted.
Unfortunately, this picture doesn't do it justice. The colour is wine but due to the picture being taken at night it hasn't come out quite right. But it gives you an idea.

29.12.06 The Hallway

The hallway tiling is now finished! I am so proud of myself as it's beautiful!
It just needs grouting now, but people will be visiting this weekend and it will be better to grout after this time.

28.12.06 The Hallway

We've been tiling the hallway. Actually, we've spent a lot of time pondering because of the wierd curve just at the bottom of the stairs.
We think we have mastered it and were just onto the final cuts for the ivory pieces when the diamond blade stopped working. We shall finish it tomorrow.
I am proud to say that I have cut all the tiles and have put some down. I get to grout tomorrow.

22.12.06 Woodwork

Just a couple of close ups of the skirting board.

21.12.06 Floor Boards

Now that the central heating has been installed (there aren't anymore leaks!) and all the electric cables are wired up around the house, all the floor boards have been put down.
The wire coming out of the skirting board is the TV aerial.

20.12.06 Woodwork

These are various pictures of the door frames and skirting on the top floor. I think that it looks amazing and that Rob has done a wonderful job with the router.
He's got his work cut out though, as all the doors and skirting will be like this. They also match the window frames.

17.12.06 In General

The saniflo on the top floor now works. So we have a workable toilet on every floor.
Rob had to bring the wall out so that the toilet back can be fixed to it. It wouldn't fix before as the saniflo required more width.
The middle floor bedroom is where all the woodwork happens. Rob made himself his own work bench.

17.12.06 The Switches

Rob was so pleased with the light switches and the electric switches. He likes the curves on the white light switch, the curves are the same on the electric sockets.
He got so excited about the bedroom light switches, shown on the yellow wall as they can be turned on/off and dimmed with the TV remote controls. They do look fabulous.
