23.08.06 The House
This is the front of the house now that all the loose rendering has been removed. The house needs to be re-rendered in parts which will mixed with PVA glue so that it will bond with the lime mortar. The whole house needs to be covered in PVA glue before we paint it.
See another supervisor in the corner of the window!
The wooden frames which were once to highlight where the windows were pre window tax have been removed. They were pieces of skirting board and architrave! Very oldy worldy! This is also being rendered as water was seeping in behind the wooden panelling.
Like most things with the house, it looks worse before it looks better.

22.08.06 The Garden Complete
22.08.06 The Garden
The apple tree is no more.....and neither is the garden! This morning John and Mickey arrived complete with JCB (sorry dad!) and worked their magic in the garden. Most of the neighbours came out to watch too.
Rob did a small protest outside the garden shed as they were threatening to knock it down. I should have given them some bribery money to ensure that the JCB had a slight accident!
Mickey does seem to be doing quite a lot of supervising! Apparantly, much tea drinking was done today too!

17.08.06 The Internal Valley
Before and after pics of the valley. The middle picture is looking from our house across our neighbours. The last picture shows the channel where the water goes out through the middle house.
On the picture of the felt and lats there are some lats missing. This is where the velux window will go which will make a feature of in the back bedroom, but it will also be an escape route if we have a fire, a place to check the air conditioning and the roof as the years pass by.

09.08.06 Wooo Hooo!
Today I managed to get up on to the top of the scaffolding, via the top floor bedroom! Rob laughed at me as I held onto the side of the scaffolding. I'm not scared of heights, but I am scared of the boards tipping up like they did the first time I walked on them on the first floor scaffolding. Tomorrow I will go up again and take views of the village that can be seen from our roof.

08.08.06 The Tiles Go On!
Apparantly, the hardest bit is matching in to the roof next door. But I think our roofer has done a wonderful job. The roof looks so clean, tidy, spik and span! The picture is of the front of the house. The side of the house has been completed but there's still the back of the house, the top part and the side bits.
08.08.06 The Fascia and Guttering
The picture shows the cast iron guttering which has been painted and is as sturdy as the day it was put up. Note the decorative loops which are quite pretty. I doubt many people notice them as they walk past but, from the roof they look lovely and ornate.
On the other picture you can see the newly painted fascia board. You can also see the metal loop going down into the brick work and the other house shows the old wooden guttering that used to be identical to ours before Rob removed it. It was so rotten that it was of no use and the water just used to drip straight into the court yard below and make the whole area water logged and then the water used to leak through the door.

04.08.06 The Roof
At last the rain stopped and the tiles came off the roof! Its taken one day to take the tiles off the roof at the front of the house, lay the felt and put the lats on. I dont know what they've been messing about at!!!!
The guttering and fascia have been repaired or changed and painted so far.
It must be a lovely view from up there, but the ladder is a bit too wobbly for my liking so I haven't made it any further than past the first wooden platform and half way up the ladder. Im such a girl!
The old slate will be used for the internal valley and the slate that cannot be used will be broken into pieces and used for the garden at the back of the house.
